Germantown

Milwaukee Journal, The,  Mar 8, 1995

Germantown officials are getting down to the nitty-gritty of how to handle housing projects proposed for elderly residents.

The Village Board has directed the planning staff and Plan Commission to work out the details for what procedures should be used, said Henry Elling, village planner.

Officials are generally interested in elderly housing projects, but not other types of multifamily housing.

"The purpose is to develop formal procedures that would apply to all cases, not on a case- by-case basis as we've been doing," he said.

Any new procedures would not affect a project already proposed by G.L. General, a Brookfield firm. That firm has proposed a 108-unit apartment project on 11 1/2 acres at W168- N11280 Western Ave. A public hearing is set for 7:30 p.m. May 1 at Village Hall, N122-W17177 Fond du Lac Ave.

New procedures, however, could affect the project proposed by Madison-based Heartland Retirement Services for 16 acres near Division Road and Virginia Ave. Different types of housing would be phased in on the property. The first priority would be an "assisted-living" facility with 19 private rooms, shared dining and recreational areas.
