Cold weather sets a shivering spring record

Waukesha It may be spring, but winter's frosty presence still hovers over us.

Temperatures dipped to a record 17 degrees Monday morning, according to the Carroll College weather station.

The old mark of 18 degrees was set in 1944 and tied in 1975.

The cold air contrasted sharply with the near-70 temperatures that started the week.

Shards of ice bristled on area creeks and ponds. The low temperatures followed a blustery evening during which a funnel cloud was spotted near North Prairie. Authorities said the funnel never touched down and no damage was reported.

Man accused of injuring girlfriend's daughter

Waukesha A 33-year-old Waukesha man has been charged in Waukesha County Circuit Court with injuring the daughter of his live-in girlfriend by "head-butting" her during an argument and then threatening to kill her.

The man is not being identified to protect the identity of the girl, who is 17. The man stands accused of battery, which carries a maximum penalty of nine months in prison and a $10,000 fine.

According to the complaint, the girl and her mother began arguing about cleaning up the house when the man began calling the girl names. The incident allegedly occurred Oct. 5.

The girl told police that the man "head-butted her," pushed and shoved her, disconnected the phone and choked her, the complaint says.
