New Orleans breaks tourism record in 2004
New Orleans CityBusiness, Feb 7, 2005 by Staff
A record 10.1 million visitors came to New Orleans in 2004, breaking the city's all-time tourism record in 2003 of 8.55 million visitors, according to the University of New Orleans Hospitality Research Center. Visitors spent more than $4.9 billion in 2004, an increase of more than $400 million over 2003.
The spending created more than $57 million in local tax revenue and helped employ an average of more than 80,000 people in the greater New Orleans area, UNO officials said. The study also showed leisure travelers comprise 75 percent of all visitors to the city with convention and business travelers making up the other 25 percent.
