Audiovox tunes out hand-held TV
Long Island Business News, Jun 24, 2005 by Claude Solnik
Audiovox Corp., which last year touted handheld TVs as a promising product, has tuned out that part of its business.
The Hauppauge-based firm last year launched a line of handheld TVs designed to expand its offerings beyond the home video, LCD flat- panel and plasma-screen markets.
The firm last year described these tiny TVs as a natural segue for Audiovox. Audiovox's handheld TVs, however, have faded to black as the firm focuses on other products instead.
The demand for handheld industry is limited to special events sales (like Father's Day), said Ralph Etna, vice president of Audiovox's consumer goods group. In between those time frames, there's very little activity in retail.
