Suffolk County Community College receives 2 grants

Long Island Business News,  Jun 24, 2005  by Henry E. Powderly II

The U.S. Department of Education awarded Suffolk County Community College a four-year grant totaling more than $1 million.

The grant is designed to support activities like one-on-one tutoring, counseling, financial aid advisement and peer monitoring to SCC low-income, disabled and 'first generation' students.

Also, The Long Island Power Authority received a grant that will enable it to provide SCCC with a 6-kilowatt solar power system.

The generator is intended for the college's Smithtown Science Building in Selden and will provide several thousands of dollars in energy savings a year. SCCC will install a video monitor in the building's lobby to display how much energy the solar power system is generating, as well as how much money is being saved.
