Oyster Bay Cove mansion sale to benefit charities

Long Island Business News,  Jun 24, 2005  by Henry E. Powderly II

The Oyster Bay Cove home of late fashion icon Geoffrey Beene has been placed on the market. And according to his will, the money generated by the sale is to go to the Geoffrey Beene Foundation. The not-for-profit group will distribute the money to fund other charities.

Beene's 1960-built neo-classical Palladian mansion sits on six acres in one of Nassau's most exclusive areas. The H-shaped mansion has 3 bedrooms, 4-and-one-half baths, ornate ceilings, marble fireplaces and a greenhouse that houses over 2,000 orchids. The asking price is nearly $5 million.

In September, Sotheby's will auction off Beene's furniture and other items from both his mansion and New York apartment. The proceeds will also go to the Geoffrey Beene Foundation.
