ND's Holden has perfect end to regular season

The Notre Dame softball team wound up the regular season on a high note, getting a perfect game from senior pitcher Emma Holden for a 3-0 win over visiting Valley Christian in a West Catholic Athletic League game.

Holden struck out 14. Senior catcher Ali Palermo smashed two hits, including a solo home run, and senior infielder Amanda Banducci added a couple of singles.

Notre Dame (16-8, 10-2 WCAL) opens play in league playoffs Tuesday with opponents and sites to be announced.

PAL Ocean

Junior right-hander Alyssa Boardman struck out 11 without giving up a walk and pitched a three-hitter to lead San Mateo (7-9, 6-6) to a 5-0 win over visiting Menlo School (1-14, 1-11). Menlo School freshman Jodie Friedman threw a six-hitter with five strikeouts.

San Mateo was paced by two hits from senior Stefanie Gemignani. Junior Jackie Shepard slapped a double for Menlo.

Woodside (16-5, 12-1) moved a half-game up on idle Terra Nova (20- 3, 11-1) and into first place in the Ocean after downing South San Francisco 13-0. Freshman pitcher Ashley Miller fired a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 11 batters.

Junior outfielder Sharol Castillo and senior catcher Lauren Diaz each had three hits, while senior third baseman Monica Boardman, junior shortstop Bryana Georgakas and junior designated hitter Erin McCoy each had two hits.

GOLF

Serra's Dennis Carson shared medalist honors with Mitty's Stephen Jahncke on Thursday at the WCAL championships at Silver Creek Country Club in San Jose.

Carson shot a 73.

Serra placed third with 402 points, behind Bellarmine (388) and St. Francis (400). Dominic DeMartini (78), Tim Byrne (81), Brendan Young (84) and Mike Domanico (86) were Serra's other scorers.
