Kiffin raising the Raiders

Oakland Tribune,  Apr 29, 2008  by Anonymous

HATS OFF to Lane Kiffin and his staff for another great Raiders draft class. Since his days as a recruiting wizard at USC, Kiffin has shown he has a keen eye for spotting raw, game-changing talent.

By bringing in "D-Mac," plus four other speedsters, Kiffin is showing that he understands what it will take to bring the Raiders back from the depths of the NFL.

Monte, find

real cause

MONTE POOLE (April 20) doesn't understand what real American apartheid is. In any sport in this country can he name a single Mexican-American coach, manager or general manager? That's apartheid.

Can he name any Mexican-American to ever coach in the NBA, NHL or Major League Baseball? That's apartheid.

Tom Flores of the Raiders is our sole representative in professional sports. He last coached (and well) over 25 years ago. It didn't change a thing.

When a position opens in any major sport, is a Mexican-American even considered? No. That's apartheid.

When Monte and other African-American writers talk and complain of only 20 percent of baseball or 60-70 percent of the NBA, coaches and managers, they should think of the percentages like I do: 0percent. That's apartheid.

Being a coach is not complicated. Oh, you think it is? Then why not hire an overachieving, young, Harvard-educated Asian-American to be head coach in your NFL, NBA or MLB? Because of real American apartheid.
