Man in wheelchair robs bank, police say
Oakland Tribune, Apr 4, 2008
PALO ALTO -- A 50- to 70-year-old white man in a motorized wheelchair -- who was last seen with his right leg sticking straight out -- robbed a Stanford Shopping Center bank at gunpoint Thursday afternoon, police said.
The man, who had a white beard, entered a Wachovia Bank branch, pointed a handgun at a teller and demanded money, police said.
He was last seen about 4:25 p.m. motoring east toward El Camino Real, police said. By
5 p.m., police were tracking a white Ford van with red lettering, in which the man may have fled.
It was unclear how much money the man escaped with or if he was using the wheelchair as a prop, police said.
