Tribune delivery man gets carjacked

Oakland Tribune,  Mar 27, 2008

OAKLAND -- An Oakland Tribune delivery driver was carjacked Wednesday morning in East Oakland by four men, one who wielded a shotgun, police said.

The carjacking happened about 4:15 a.m. Wednesday at 73rd Avenue and International Boulevard.

The suspects approached on foot, ordered the delivery driver out of his Toyota Camry, took his wallet and drove off in his car.

The driver, whose name was not released, was not hurt.

About 6:15 a.m., Alameda County sheriff's deputies stopped the Toyota at 165th Avenue and East 14th Street for driving without headlights on.

Deputies determined the car had been taken at gunpoint from the delivery man and arrested the driver, an 18-year-old Oakland man who was the only occupant. His name was not released, and he was being interviewed by investigators Wednesday night.

The Toyota was still filled with newspapers when police stopped it.

Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to

$2,500 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the other suspects. Anyone with information can call police at 510- 238-3326 or Crime Stoppers at 510-238-6946.
