A fine, sunny welcome for the first day of spring

It's the first full day of spring and it looks like it's going to be the kind of March day that made California famous: warm and sunny and not the faintest chance of rain for the days ahead.
The National Weather Service credits the "Pacific High" a ridge of high pressure off the coast that keeps cold and wet weather from the Gulf of Alaska far out to sea.
Weather Service meteorologist Brian Tentinger says we can expect high temperatures today in the mid-60s around San Francisco Bay and around 70 further inland. Lows tonight should be in the 40s, Tentinger says.
"There's not much chance for rain until early next week and that's a weak front," he adds.
Officially, the Vernal Equinox began at 10:48 p.m. PDT Wednesday night.
