Oakland Tribune,  Mar 19, 2008

The Serra baseball team has now played three games in its own Knights of Columbus Tournament without allowing a run.

The Padres beat Bellarmine 7-0 on Tuesday as Stephen Lumpkins and Ian Tolle combined on a four-hitter. The previous two shutouts were both no-hitters.

Serra (11-3) broke the game open with a six-run second inning. Ryan Allgrove had the big hit with a two-run double.

Terra Nova beat Burlingame 10-1 in the other Knights of Columbus game. Tommy Luhrs tripled and homered, and D. J. McDonough had three RBIs to lead the Tigers (6-5).

Serra hosts Bellarmine, and Terra Nova plays at Burlingame today at 3:30 p.m.

PAL Lake

Hillsdale (9-2, 5-0) blasted Westmoor 24-1. Scott Pon hit three doubles and had six RBIs. Johnny Lloyd and Brandon Bielagus hit home runs, with Bielagus also having six RBIs.

Non-league

Menlo School (8-2) beat Sacred Heart Prep 8-7 in the battle of neighboring Atherton private schools.

Menlo scored all eight of its runs in its final two at-bats. A

three-run fifth gave the Knights a 3-1 lead. Then after the Gators scored four in the top of the sixth on Christian Buono's grand slam, Menlo responded with five in the bottom half and withstood a two-run rally in the top of the seventh, as Kenny Diekroeger came on to close out the game. Jack Mosbacher had a two- run single in the bottom of the sixth to give Menlo the lead for good.
