Man runs off with cash from bank
Oakland Tribune, Mar 18, 2008
SAN MATEO -- A bank robber leaped over the counter of a San Mateo bank Monday afternoon, snatched an undetermined amount of cash from a teller's drawer, ran out the door and managed to make a clean getaway, police reported.
The crime occurred shortly after 4 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank, located at 81 W. Hillsdale Blvd, according to San Mateo police Lt. Mike Brunicardi.
The thief made his dramatic jump over the counter in the bank's safe deposit section, police reported. He was unarmed, and nobody was injured during the incident, Brunicardi said.
The man was last seen running west on West Hillsdale Boulevard, he added.
Several police officers, detectives and a K-9 police dog responded to the afternoon robbery, but an extensive search had not yet produced a suspect by press time.
Police are searching for an African-American male between 35 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build. He was wearing a gray fedora hat, light purple jacket and dark pants and shoes, police said.
Anyone with information about the crime is urged to call the San Mateo Police Department's Investigations Services Unit at 650-522- 7650 or the Secret Witness Hotline at 650-522-7676.
