Free cab rides offered during holiday

Oakland Tribune,  Mar 17, 2008  by Jenelle Black

Berg Injury Lawyers, Yellow Cab of Alameda and Veterans Cab are teaming up to make sure people get home safely on St. Patrick's Day by offering free cab rides to residents of Oakland, Alameda and Berkeley.

Launched in 2004, the Safe and Sober Free Cab Ride Home program, sponsored by Alameda-based law firm Berg Injury Lawyers, aims to raise community awareness of the dangers of drunken driving and provides safe transportation alternatives during many of the traditionally high alcohol consumption holidays.

Individuals too intoxicated to drive can call Yellow Cab of Alameda or Veterans Cab and get a free ride home. Berg picks up the tab.

"Each time we do it, people take us up on the offer and it is a success," said Attorney William Berg.

Free cab rides will be offered from 3 p.m. Monday to 3 a.m. Tuesday.

To request a free cab ride home, call Yellow Cab of Alameda or Veterans Cab at 800-281-4488 and tell them Berg Injury Lawyers is paying for the safe ride home.

"I am one hundred percent certain we have got some drunk drivers off the road," Berg said.
