Livermore man injured in accident on East Avenue

Oakland Tribune,  Mar 16, 2008

LIVERMORE -- Police are investigating a Friday night accident that injured a pedestrian crossing East Avenue.

Around 7:45 p.m. Friday, police responded to the 5700 block of East Avenue after Brian Velasco, 42, of Livermore was struck by a Toyota Camry driven by Cora Healy, 58, of Livermore, according to a police news release.

Velasco, who had been crossing from south to north, ended up through the Camry's front windshield and halfway into the car. He was airlifted to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek and sustained a broken leg and multiple cuts.

The accident closed East Avenue for several hours while police investigated the circumstances behind the crash.

Livermore police dispatchers did not know whether Velasco had been using a crosswalk or if Healy had been speeding.

Healy was not charged in connection with the accident, police said. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call Officer Glen Robbins at 925-371-4850.
