Murder unsolved after a year

Oakland Tribune,  Oct 21, 2005  by Amy Yarbrough, STAFF WRITER

HILLSBOROUGH -- Months after posting a $1 million reward for information, the daughter of a woman murdered in her Hillsborough home last year is spreading the word in Asia, police said.

Doris Ng just returned from a trip to Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Malaysia, where she took out ads in newspapers announcing the reward, said Hillsborough Police Capt. Mark O'Connor.

Ng's mother Priscilla, 58, died and her mother's companion, Andrew Chang, was seriously injured when they were attacked by two men in Ng's Butternut Drive home on June 19, 2004.

O'Connor said that while neither investigators nor Doris Ng believe that the killers are in Asia, she wanted to publicize the reward there, in case word of the killing had reached the Far East.

Police believe the two killers beat and strangled Priscilla Ng and Chang, put blankets over their heads and tape over their faces, which caused the woman to die of asphyxiation. The men left in Ng's white Lexus, taking with them jewelry and Chang's wallet.

Doris Ng announced the $1 million reward in June. Priscilla Ng's ex-husband, Stephen Ng, had previously offered $30,000.

Since the larger reward was announced, police have received about 30 calls, although none of them have yielded any promising leads, O'Connor said.

Police ask anyone with information to cal 375-7470. Cantonese- or Mandarin-speakers can call 375-7473.
