Woman escapes from Burlingame police car

Oakland Tribune,  Oct 21, 2005  by STAFF REPORTS

BURLINGAME -- A handcuffed woman escaped from a police car and disappeared Tuesday night after she was taken into custody for suspected drug possession, police said.

Police stopped the woman, Shona Garcia, around 7:45 p.m. on 1500 block of Howard Avenue after she ran a stop sign, and they noticed she had her headlights off, said Burlingame Police Cmdr. Mike Matteucci. Officers handcuffed her, placed her into a patrol car and shut the doors.

While police were searching her car, she somehow managed to escape, Matteucci said.

"We think that she must have been able to slip out of the handcuffs, or someone came and assisted," he said.
