FINDING A QUALIFIED interventionist can be tricky. But help is available, if you do your homework.
Just as you would do when searching for a doctor or dentist, ask close friends or family members for referrals. Interview two or three prospective interventionists about their approach and ask for references from the rehabilitation facilities they have worked with. Many rehabilitation centers also employ a staff interventionist. The Betty Ford Center maintains a referral list of interventionists who work with Bay Area clients.
Be prepared: Hiring an intervention and paying for rehabilitation are not cheap. A 90-day stay at a quality, out-of-state rehabilitation center starts at $28,000 to $30,000. One small, upscale Bay Area facility charges about $25,000 per month.

Interventionists' fees and services vary, costing from about $4,000 for eight hours of care to $8,000 for 25 hours of long-term case management. It's not usually covered by insurance plans.
