Russia And India May Sign Aircraft Carrier Deal
Emerging Markets Economy, Jan 6, 2004
A package of contracts on the purchase of the heavy aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov by the Indian Navy will be signed in the second half of January, a source close to the Russian defence industry said.
Russia and India have been negotiating this contract for several years, but the cost parameters remained a stumbling block until recently. Russia is giving the ship itself to India for free.
However, repair, modernization, equipping the ship with aircraft and so on will be part of special contracts, the source said. The overall costs of these contracts will amount to over $1.5 billion. - (EMEconomy.com)
