Lawn Tennis: Serena the lean machine toes the line
Independent on Sunday, The, Sep 3, 2006 by Clive Brunskill
The weather's been atrocious at the US Open at Flushing Meadows in New York, but I did get a bit of sun for this shot of Serena Williams serving on Thursday on her way to beating Daniela Hantuchova. I twisted the camera slightly to level the baseline intheframe, which accentuates the angle she's leaning at' it looks as if she's just about to topple over. But it highlights her magnificent athleticism at full power-stretch. She's one of my favourite female players, and also helps me by not wearing a visor' they make life difficult, because the shadow they cast means you lose all detail in the face. The lighting for night games here is pretty good, and at Andre Agassi's match on Thursday night the snappers were among the few who wouldn't have minded him losing, because we knew his farewell would be a huge story.
CLIVE BRUNSKILL USED A CANON EOS-1D MK UN DIGITAL CAMERA RATED AT 100 ASA WITH A 500MM F4 LENS, SHOOTING AT 1/1,000TH OF A SECOND AT F5.6
