:: crimeUS court quashes 1987 death sentence on Briton

Independent on Sunday, The,  Aug 12, 2007

US prosecutors refuse to say whether they will challenge a court decision to quash the death sentence passed on Briton Kenny Richey, who has spent 20 years on death row. Richey was sentenced to death in January 1987 after being convicted of starting a fire in which a two-year-old girl died in Ohio.

He has always protested his innocence, and the US Appeal Court in Cincinnati overturned his death sentence on Friday. A similar decision made in 2005 was later challenged and set aside.
