:: POVERTYMillions of children too poor to go on holiday

Independent on Sunday, The,  Aug 12, 2007

Millions of children will be lucky if their parents can afford to take them on holiday this year, according to the Campaign to End Child Poverty. A new report reveals how more than half of lone- parent families are unable to go away even for a week after covering the extra costs of school dinners.

One in three children - 3.8 million - live in poverty. Campaigners say the Government needs to spend an extra [pound]4bn a year on benefits and child tax credits if it is to reach its target of lifting a million children out of poverty by 2010. JO
