Cannabis: a threat to health or vital therapy?

Independent on Sunday, The,  Aug 5, 2007

New evidence that helped change the stance of the 'IoS' has not persuaded everyone of the dangers of the drug, particularly those who rely on its medicinal properties

Rob

Are you calling for an end to tobacco sales too? Alcohol? Cars? The Government is not our mummy, we are able to make up our own minds. By all means give us the information but please don't get preachy.

Graham

I know people who have been smoking "skunk" for over a decade and are still the same as they were 10 years ago. The police have better things to do than harass people using or carrying small quantities of cannabis.

Gizmo

It depends on the way you use it. Smoking is probably worse as you get other chemicals in your lungs. The older I get the more I disagree with "officials" telling me what I cannot do.

Fatboytrim

Current drug laws don't work! Prohibition does not work. Alcohol prohibition in the US is the lesson to learn from. Stopping the MASSIVE profits dealers can make must be the priority.

Anton

Cannaboids have a positive side. They are powerful medicines and my wife is prescribed cannabis for her MS. It has good effects on her. I know some cannabis users who are a bit odd, but this is from years of high use.

T2006

Class C is appropriate for cannabis. I have strong objections to the drug being used as a political pawn by politicians wishing to show how "tough" they are on drugs. Reclassification does nothing to help the people who need help.

Fisherman

As with alcohol and tobacco, we look at friends who use cannabis with no apparent harmful effects and use that as evidence that it is safe. Downgrading it to class C was a big mistake.

I don't understand the "skunk" issue. It's like saying that drinking wine isn't a problem, but now people are distilling brandy and it's a new problem.
