Take a pile of old chairs...

Independent on Sunday, The,  Aug 5, 2007

In our throwaway culture it's no surprise to find that designers are exploring the reuse potential of discarded products, turning them into something luxurious and precious.

In Christiane Hoegner's work (www.christianehoegner.com) abandoned furniture is sprayed with rubber to create a new piece, but with the chips and scuffs still visible. Stuart Haygarth (www.stuarthaygarth.com) makes chandeliers from exploded party poppers and beach debris. Meanwhile Martino Gamper (www.gampermartino.com) and Karen Ryan (www.bykarenryan.co.uk) create new furniture using the reconfigured parts of old pieces.

To find out more, visit the exhibition Trash Lux at Liberty in London (www.liberty.co.uk), from 20 September. Thanks to the futurelaboratory.com
