Highs and lows of marriage
Independent on Sunday, The, Jul 15, 2007
BAO XISHUN, 56, the world's tallest man, fulfilled his quest for love when he married Xia Shujian, 29, from his home town in Inner Mongolia. Some 2,000 guests attended the ceremony at the tomb of Kublai Khan in northern China. Bao is 7ft 9in tall, and his bride is 5ft 5in.
Later in the week, he went on to meet the world's shortest man, 19-year-old He Pingping, who is just 2ft 5in tall. He was lifted into the air to shake Bao's hand.
Bao, a herdsman, achieved fame last year when he put his long arms to good use by pulling dangerous plastic from the stomachs of two dolphins.
The traditional ceremony was akin to a royal wedding. Now Bao is thinking of children: just as long as they are not too tall. Bao explained: "If we have a child, I hope he or she can be 1.8-1.9m tall. Then he or she can play basketball."
