Robert Bresson's moving 1966 drama examines mankind's capacity for kindness, cruelty and stupidity through the eyes of a donkey. Balthasar leads a happy early life, surrounded by loving children, but is then shunted from one owner to another as a beast of burden, many of whom treat him cruelly. His miseries parallel those of the little girl who named him, who grows up to be drawn into an abusive relationship. Stars Anne Wiazemsky and Francois Lafarge.
Guarding the Queen

Behind the scenes at the royal palaces to reveal the hidden world of the Grenadier Guards, beginning with an invitation from the Queen to a party at Windsor Castle to celebrate 350 years of serving the monarch. The programme follows Steven Cooper, who comes close to freezing as he nears the end of his basic training.

Two of Britain's leading choirs join forces for a programme of choral blockbusters from the late Renaissance, including the modern premiere of Alessandro Striggio's Mass - a 40-voice piece that lay forgotten in a Paris library for 450 years until recently, and which concludes with an Agnus Dei in no fewer than 60 parts. The concert also features Tallis's famous 40-part Spem in Alium.
