Blur star Alex James gives Hay Festival the lowdown on cheesemaking

Alex James, the Blur bassist turned farmer and cheesemaker, spoke yesterday to a sell-out audience at the Hay Festival of Literature. In an hour-long session with music journalist John Harris, James talked about his experience of the Britpop explosion in the 1990s, and his subsequent discovery of a rural way of life beyond London's music scene.
James is one of a number of celebrities who now attend the festival, which some literary figures have criticised for selling out. His autobiography, 'Bit of a Blur', is published this week. The festival ends today.
