Sponsors dig deep as bowls reaches its dead-end game

Independent on Sunday, The,  May 6, 2007  by Alan Hubbard Sports Diarist

There are a few sports out there dying for a sponsor - or for the lack of one. But here's one which clearly isn't a dying game, because it is being sponsored by it. Bowls' indoor World Tour is to be backed by Co-Operative Funeralcare. Not that anyone is burying the good news, as Sky will televise the summer event.

Actually, it seems a natural progression for a sport which previously has enjoyed sponsorship from Sanatogen, Saga Holidays, Bupa Care Homes (for the dear departing) and Golden Charter, the funeral planning service. And now it has called in the undertakers. Dead lucky the event is not taking place at Gravesend.
