Twenty-year-old Ryan Fitzgerald, of Massachusetts, is a sociable sort of fellow. On Friday last week he posted a video on YouTube in which he gave his mobile number and said he would "be there" for anyone who "needed to talk". By Monday morning he had received 5,000 calls and texts from strangers.
He hopes to answer them all as soon as possible - the only problem being that he is only eligible for free calls at weekends, so his generosity of spirit could work out to be rather expensive.
