Miss Chic

As you may have read in small side-bar articles in one or two little-known newspapers, Topshop boss man Sir Philip Green has given Kate Moss a couple of pounds to design a "KM" collection for his store. When it launches, later this week, expect "Shoppers crushed for Kate Moss shorts" headlines, because the range will, of course, be a phenomenal success. But the clock is ticking and even the most super of supermodels' powers will not last forever, so what can Ms Moss do when she stops being super?
When Superman lost his powers, he found himself confused, in pain and thrown into emotional turmoil, though he opted to continue with the name and costume regardless. This is not an option for the often- confused and emotional models; once the looks and legs have gone, they can't be elbowed off the catwalk and magazine covers quickly enough. But there is life after super. For some.
Remember Carla Bruni (right)? The 1990s Italian supermodel and the face of countless fashion campaigns. Getting out while the face was good, but the audience had moved on, she relaunched herself as a singer and released two successful albums. Not that I am encouraging an album of Pete and Kate duets; I for one would rather listen to Peter and Katie's.
Alternatively, Moss could follow Gisele into a leading-lady acting role. The Brazilian has potential because she convincingly looked at Anne Hathaway in the The Devil Wears Prada, and Moss did sound pretty amazed when she said "Really?" in that Virgin Mobile advert.
Then there is always the Naomi Campbell school of what-to-do- when-no-one-is-interested-anymore. Basically, you apologise to everyone you upset when you were once super, hoping that this simple act of repentance will return you to your rightful position. When that fails, you can always catwalk exclusively for Julien MacDonald and persuade yourself that it is a good career move.
Of course, Moss could always continue to model. Twiggy does it. Even bloody Jerry Hall gets her blonde locks out from time to time. There is nothing super or even dignified about it, but they are very grateful for the work.
