Britain's status as the fattest nation in Europe prompts larger- than-life US comedian Steve Daly to spend time in the UK highlighting the dangers of obesity. Daly, who hasn't been able to wear shoes for two years and needs a machine to keep him breathing while he sleeps, recently had a heart attack in front of a packed audience.

A look at the future of weather modification. Densely populated urban centres in East Asia are under threat from storms brought about by climate change, and scientists predict New York will almost certainly be hit by a hurricane in the near future. Research into ways of preventing such events is becoming more and more important, but many believe tampering with nature is wrong. Last in series.

Working musician Chi-chi Nwanoku presents this new two-hour record-request slot. The idea is that, as principal bass player of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, she will talk about own her favourite works and pieces she has encountered over the previous week. The programme also includes a contribution from a second musician who shares their own musical choice. The first is pianist Roger Vignoles.
