CALYPSO COLLAPSO: THE BATTING WOES

Independent on Sunday, The,  Apr 15, 2007  by Andrew Tong

FIRST BUT LEAST: The openers keep failing. Other sides struggle to score at the start but stick at it. Joyce came and went, Bell was in the runs so he was elevated. Strauss can't score, now even a clueless Flintoff is touted. And where to put Vaughan?

PLATFORM FALLS DOWN: England have recovered from early wickets but if Bell or Pietersen is out, there is a clatter of wickets. Praise be for Nixon (right).

POWERLESS TO RESIST: In power plays England are put under pressure when they should be applying it, or at least relieving it. Piercing the field is beyond them, but others are busy hitting sixes.

MAKING THEM COUNT: England should be good at rotating the strike, given all the county one-dayers they play.

Nudging into gaps keeps the score ticking over and stops bowlers from settling. Basic stuff.
