FILMS ON TELEVISION: TODAY

Independent, The (London),  Sep 16, 2006

The Wicker Man 2.05am ITV4 *****

(Robin Hardy, 1973, left) In one of the most remarkable British horror films, a police officer (Edward Woodward) investigates the disappearance of a girl in a remote Scottish community. What he finds there is a local laird (Christopher Lee) who keeps traditions of human sacrifice alive. Some have liked the remake, but this one scores on all counts.

The Business of Strangers 3.05am C4 ****

(Patrick Stettner, 2001)Stockard Channing is the hardas-nails corporate businesswoman who takes out her frustrations on her assistant (Julia Stiles) on a business trip. But late one evening, back at the hotel, Stiles claims to have recognised a man who raped her and Channing is drawn in to a murky revenge scenario. An excellent little psychodrama.
