World Markets: Tokyo

Independent, The (London),  Aug 2, 2005

The Nikkei rose 0.4 per cent to its best close in five months as rising oil prices lifted energy shares and solid earnings prospects boosted NTT DoCoMo and Komatsu, up 5 and 6 per cent respectively. Renewed confidence over China's economic growth buoyed shippers, but traders favoured banks such as Mizuho Financial. The index closed at 11,946.9.
