The self-styled Hairy Cornflake, whose dubious broadcasting legacy includes bringing snooker to the radio, resigned on air in protest at the station's 1993 reforms.

But he eschewed the lure of the business world in his life after Radio 1, happy to move on to the gentle pastures of BBC Radio Three Counties and a global audience of four million for his BBC World Service programme A Jolly Good Show. This year he was signed to Spain's largest English language radio station Spectrum where he teamed up with his old BBC colleague Ed Stewart. Lives in Tring with his Swedish wife Marianne.

The Zimbabwean-born DJ, best known for presenting the Top 40 Show, has experienced mixed fortunes in his business life since leaving Radio 1.

His Wise Buddha company produced nine dance shows for BBC until it went into liquidation in March 2002 when he was forced to lay off 31 workers.

Wise Buddha had merged with Pete Tong's West End Radio Productions in 2000. At the time, Goodier also owned a 2 per cent stake in the ill-fated Worldpop.com and was asked to sacrifice his share in the company by the BBC to avoid a 'clash of interests'. The stock was reported to be worth pounds 7m, although the company folded a year later. He now hosts Emap's Smash Hits Chart " an interactive rundown originally used by Channel Five and with a potential analogue audience of 7 million local radio listeners.

Wealth rating pounds 2m Position 6 Real name Trevor, Brookes was the only jock to survive the infamous Bannister cull which claimed the scalps of behemoths such as Dave Lee Travis. He was said to be 'gutted' after losing his pounds 100,000 contract for the early morning show and the Sunday chart rundown. He turned his energies to business, managing Chris Moyles and then jointly running a radio and TV presenter school at Newbury. But his main focus has been Storm Radio, billed as the UK's first 24-hour internet radio station, run under the auspices of Bruno Brookes Media Entertainment. Storm changed its name to Immedia in 1999 and was floated on AIM 18 months ago. His company specialises in broadcasting in-store radio and TV to retailers. Brookes recently increased his stake in Immedia, of which he is chief executive, buying 50,000 shares at 21p " bringing his stake to 13.3 per cent. But yesterday Immedia signalled it was open to offers after revealing widening pre-tax losses of pounds 273,000 in the first half of the year.

They manage Powell's ex-wife Anthea Turner, Geordie presenters Ant and Dec, Phillip Schofield and Melanie Sykes. But the collapse of the dotcom bubble hit Powell hard. His company Worldpop collapsed in 2001. He has bounced back with a stake in Gold Card Ibiza " a package tour for well-heeled night clubbers.
