Tycoon faces four to 10 years' jail

Independent, The (London),  May 20, 2005

MOSCOW The judge reading the verdict in the trial of the oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky and his business partner, Platon Lebedev, said he had committed fraud, but that he could receive a lighter sentence than sought. Judge Irina Kolesnikova, in the fourth day of the verdict's reading, said the court would seek from four to 10 years' jail, rather than five to 10.

Observers say this is the Kremlin's revenge for the tycoon's political activities.
