Government spending watchdog asked to check on Livingstone's pounds
Independent, The (London), Jul 31, 2002
KEN LIVINGSTONE'S failed High Court challenge to the part- privatisation of London Underground was referred to the Audit Commission for investigation yesterday. The legal action, which could cost up to pounds 4m, was branded a "waste of public money" by the Mayor's critics on the London Assembly.
Mr Livingstone said it had been "worth a chance" to fight against a plan said to be opposed by most Londoners. A Transport for London spokeswoman said: "We had the full backing of the board to proceed with the action."
