Letter: Sub hypothesis wrong

Independent, The (London),  Nov 11, 2001  by Mike Finney

Your article "Depths of despair" (Sunday Review, 28 October), presenting a hypothetical account of the Kursk affair, states that HMS Splendid detected the initial explosions. This is wrong; there were no Royal Navy submarines within 1,000 miles of the Barents Sea when the Kursk sank.
