SPEEDING WOLVES CLINCH VICTORY

Independent, The (London),  Jul 14, 1998

MIKAEL Karlsson delivered six of the best at Monmore Green last night as Wolverhampton made a mockery of their disappointing form so far this season.

The stylish Swede's immaculate 18-point maximum was the highlight of a resounding Wolves victory - their biggest since the formation of the Elite League last year.

The Monmore men had things all their own way from the outset, and were so much in control that they had wiped out a 20-point deficit from the match at Eastbourne two weeks ago by heat nine, and ensured themselves of the aggregate bonus point with two rac es to spare.

Amazingly, the Eagles then hit back with a 5-1 from Stefan Andersson and Gary Havelock, which was astonishing in view of their previous failure to provide a single race winner.

It was just a pity that the visitors' duo relegated Sam Ermolenko to third place in that unexpected heat win.

With reserve George Stancl unbeaten by an opponent and England international Mark Loram in stunning form after trailing third in his opening ride, Eastbourne were never in contention.

Wolves: M Karlsson 18, M Loram 14, S Ermolenko 11, G Stancl 10, J Jensen 6, G Stead 3.

Eastbourne: M Durard 8, G Havlock 7, S Danno 5, S Andersson 5, D Norris 2, R Johansson 1.
