Williams crowned King of Speedworld

National Dragster,  Jan 20, 2006  by Griffey, Victoria

NHRA King of the Track event

SPEEDWORLD RACEWAY PARK, Northwest Phoenix, Ariz. (Dec. 4) - One week after winning a Wally in the National DRAGSTER Challenge, Andrew Williams added another coveted trophy to his collection when he won the King of the Track event. King of the Track is like a mini-Race of Champions because it features racers who won a Team Race, a tough task considering the fields often had 200 cars.

Williams, driving a stock '99 Nova wagon, drilled the Tree and worked the top end all day to make it to the final against Paul Lorten. In the final, both drivers broke out by .002-second and both cut .51 lights. That meant the computer had to go to the tenthousandth digit to determine the winner; Williams got the nod.
