Format to retire sportsman records changed

National Dragster,  Apr 4, 2003

NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series elapsed-time national records in Stock, Super Stock, and Comp will not be automatically retired based on weight-break adjustments, regardless of whether the record holder's entry still legally fits the class in which the record was set. Sportsman national records will now be retired 23 months from the date they are set, at the end of the month.

When retired, the records revert to a minimum of .5-- second under the index (-.25 for eighth-mile) for Stock and Super Stock and .-second under the index (-.2 for eighth-- mile) for Comp. Comp records may be set in the first round of eliminations using a qualifying run within the necessary 1 percent from the same event as a backup for the record time. Super Stock and Stock racers may not set or back up records during any rounds of competition. Pro and Top Alcohol records are not retired.
