NHRA Spring Sportsman Challenge XI to kick off 2003 Division 3, 5 seasons

National Dragster,  Apr 4, 2003

The 11th edition of the NHRA Spring Sportsman Challenge at Gateway Int'l Raceway in Madison is set to kick off the 2003 North Central and West Central Division seasons April 5-6 with a mix of nearly every form of NHRA Sportsman and bracket racing. Racing will include the NHRA Jegs Super Quick Series; Super Stock, Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, and Super Street classes from the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series; NHRA Summit Racing Series; and NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League.

The Jegs Super Quick Series begins its 15th season at Gateway featuring, for the first time, an expanded 64-car qualified field. The series has established itself not only as one of the longest running but also one of the country's premier touring eighth-mile racing programs. The remaining nine points races in the 2003 series will have traditional 32-car fields.

Stock and Super Stock racers will run in a combo field with $1,500 posted to win. National record runs will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A final qualifying session will be held Sunday morning with eliminations Sunday afternoon. Two complete days of bracket and Jr. drag racing are planned.
