Castrol GTX honors first top tech student of 2003

National Dragster,  Apr 18, 2003

Randi Reel, an 18-year-old high school senior from Bellville, Texas, was introduced at the NHRA SummitRacing.com Nationals as an honoree of the 2003 Castrol GTX Top Tech program, which recognizes outstanding students in automotive-education programs. Seven other regional winners will be introduced at subsequent events this year.

Each honoree will serve as an honorary crewmember for 12-time NHRA Funny Car champion John Force and will receive a Mac Tools toolbox stocked with $1,000 worth of new tools and a Castrol GTX hat and T-shirt. In addition, one of the eight winners will receive a $7,500 scholarship to continue his or her automotive-service education, and Castrol will donate Castrol GTX and Castrol GTX High Mileage engine oils to each honoree's schools.

Reel tutors fellow students, is a part-time lube technician at a Dodge dealership, and is a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity power-lifting team at Bellville High School.

Reel, who attended the national event with her husband, Jason, ultimately hopes to use her automotive training to manage an automobile dealership. As president of the local chapter of Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, she presently is involved in performing a full restoration of an '84 Blazer.
