Mental Health Nursing, Mar 2007
Mental health nurses took strike action in February in protest against proposed service cuts. Staff from the Manchester Health and Social Care Trust formed picket lines at the start of the month in reaction to news that the trust is planning to cut 33 nursing posts. Community psychiatric nurse Karen Reissman said: 'We are determined to stop the devastation of community mental health services.
Community does need expansion so that all our clients have access to home treatment as an alternative to hospitalisation.' A second day of strike action was averted after unions and trust managers agreed to negotiate with the arbitration service ACAS.
