Mental Health Nursing, May 2006
Building work has begun at Affinity Healthcare's Middleton St George Hospital heralding the start of an exciting new era for mental healthcare in the North East. Ongoing developments at the hospital will eventually increase bed capacity from 47 to 168 and staffing levels will rise from approximately 200 to 500.
In a major refurbishment plan, many of the hospital's older buildings will be knocked down to make way for new, state-of-the-art patient suites, designed specifically to care for people with mental healthcare needs.
Hospital director Linda Stephens said: 'Exciting times are ahead as the hospital continues to expand. The new facilities and modern patient service will provide a major boost to mental health care across the North East. Middleton St George Hospital will soon be able to provide some of the best care and facilities in the country.'
