Ipswich outreach

Mental Health Nursing,  Mar 2005

The PIMHS team, set up by Ipswich Primary Care Trust aims to fill a gap in services for those whose needs are complex but who do not qualify for specialist care from a community mental health team. Supported by the Sainsbury Centre for Mental Heath, it is the first of its kind in England.

The team is composed of mental health professionals, graduate primary care mental health workers and service users. They will offer treatment for their mental health problems alongside support with employment, benefits and housing.

Dr Alan Cohen, SCMH director of primary care, said: 'We are currently working with 5 primary care trusts across England to set up intermediate care teams and will be evaluating how well they work over the next year.'
