CPNA forum

Mental Health Nursing,  Mar 2003  by Rowe, John

On Wednesday 22 January the new CPNA Forum met at Fair Mile Hospital. Members from across Berkshire and Oxfordshire discussed and shared issues and concerns encountered in their work as CPNs. The purpose of the Forum was debated: as an opportunity for local CPNs to meet to share work-based issues and concerns, to assess interest in the Forum and whether it will be useful.

As well as recruitment and representation a range of issues and concerns encountered by CPNs in their everyday work were raised. These included inappropriate work allocation, lack of management understanding of the CPN role, carer assessments, workload, transfer of teams between Trusts and care coordination.

The next meeting of the Forum is to be at Wallis House in Wokingham on Thursday March 20 from 2 - 4 pm. It is hoped Debbie Watson and Mike Robinson, the regional representatives for MSF, will be able to attend to provide an overview of their role and offer guidance to members.

Future Forum meetings are to be held across the area to maximise access to members. On May 22. it will meet at May Tree House in Didcot. After this Henley is likely to be the chosen location for the Forum. CPNA members and interested CPNs from the Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckingham areas are welcome.
