Early signs

Mental Health Nursing,  Mar 2003

Nearly nine in 10 of of 15-to-21 year olds know someone who has experienced a mental health problem, according to a new survey. The research was commissioned by Mind Out for Mental Health, funded by the Department of Health, as part of its Read the Signs campaign.

This aims to encourage understanding and discussion of mental health problems among young people. Reaching People Early, a report published by ReThink found that people experience the early signs of severe mental illness for over two years before receiving help. Even those with clear signs of psychosis could wait an average 18 months for help.
