Mental Health Nursing, Dec 2001
We've been there but we haven't done that or at least all of it. CPNA annual conference is in Edinburgh, Heriot Watt University to be exact, in April.
The event was held there in 1999 but there will be substantial changes in this April's gathering. The annual general meeting of the CPNA is moving centre stage and will be held on the first afternoon. This will provide a higher profile for the meeting and allow more time for debate. A number of constitutional changes are being proposed by the NEC which affect everyone.
Labour relations surgeries are also planned so that delegates can seek advice and hopefully resolution for workplace issues.
There will also be the regular components. Professor Kevin Gournay from the Institute of Psychiatry, will give the Moore Memorial lecture while Dr Charles Watters from the European centre for the study of the social care of minority groups and refugees will took at the mental health difficulties faced by asylum seekers.
The regular question time session will be chaired by the BBC radio health correspondent Richard Hanniford while the Cyber Cafe is sponsored by Apple Computers.
Appropriately, the changes to Scottish health, including mental health, will be highlighted when Scottish health minister Susan Deacon opens the conference.
A full social programme is planned with a distinctive Scottish flavour. The disco and cabaret on the first night will be followed by dinner and dancing on the second. The aim is to ensure that delegates from all over the UK enjoy the best Caledonian hospitality.
