Update
New standards of care for older people are contained in the NSF for Older People (England).
The NSF is being backed by L120 million over the next three years to refurbish old-style 'Nightingale' wards which have fallen below acceptable standards of care.
Professor Ian Philp, the National Director for Older People's Services, appointed to drive forward these new standards, said: "People in older age groups often have complex health needs, including physical, mental and social aspects. Our services need to mirror that situation. This will mean much closer working between health and social care partners."
